Dealing with Discouragement: Our Weakness is Better than Power

We continue our topical message series with a sermon entitled Dealing with Discouragement: Our Weakness is Better than Power. We will launch from 2 Corinthians 11:30, but like last week, we will bring in many scriptures. This message is designed to encourage us and set our eyes on what is proper and good instead of every other ideal thing we see in the world, or in our own imagination, or in our neighbor’s lives. The message is in the following sections:

  1. Looking at the Wrong Pictures
  2. Strength matters not to God
  3. Jesus the Servant
  4. No small churches, No small people
  5. Finding Contentment.

Our public reading was the classic Psalm 23, our benediction was 2 Corinthians 9:8

2 Corinthians 11:30

30 If I must boast, I will boast of the things that show my weakness. (ESV)

Psalm 23

23:1 The Lord is my shepherd; I shall not want.
He makes me lie down in green pastures.
He leads me beside still waters.
He restores my soul.
He leads me in paths of righteousness
for his name’s sake.

Even though I walk through the valley of the shadow of death,
I will fear no evil,
for you are with me;
your rod and your staff,
they comfort me.

You prepare a table before me
in the presence of my enemies;
you anoint my head with oil;
my cup overflows.
Surely goodness and mercy shall follow me
all the days of my life,
and I shall dwell in the house of the Lord
forever. (ESV)

2 Corinthians 9:8

And God is able to make all grace abound to you, so that having all sufficiency in all things at all times, you may abound in every good work. (ESV)
