Sunday Sermons

At Cornerstone, the sermons are primarily expository in nature. We spend most of our time stepping through a section or book of the Bible verse by verse, section by section, and occasionally we will preach on a theme. The elders strive to make each sermon a Christ centered, church building, Gospel proclaiming, truth driven, biblically grounded, proclamation for the purpose of God glorifying transformation.

To interpret and apply his text in accordance with its real meaning, is one of the preacher’s most sacred duties.John Broadus, On the Preparation and Delivery of Sermons

The Master of the Feast

John 2:1-11 – Pastor Lee preaches on this important account of the inaugural, miraculous sign of Jesus’ public ministry. In a small town out in the country, Jesus makes 150 gallons of high quality wine so that a wedding feast won’t end early. Why did he kick off his ministry by resurrecting a party? What clues can we learn about Jesus in…

Three Marks of Following Jesus

John 1:35-42 – Having seen who Jesus is, and heard Him proclaimed by the prophet-herald John the Baptist, we now look at what Jesus does – He saves sinners. The story of the first disciples illustrates what faith is, and what it means to become a disciple of Jesus Christ. John 1:35-42 35 The next day again John was standing with two of…

Behold, the Lamb of God

John 1:24-34 – John the Baptist announces the ministry of Christ with the glorious annunciation “Behold, the Lamb of God who takes away the sin of the world!” In this great title of Christ, our sacrificial lamb is presented as our singular righteousness, and all other efforts to atone for sin are insufficient. Here is a challenge to put off empty religious…

Who Are You?

John 1:19-23 – John the Baptist stirred up a nation with messianic fervor, prompting the Jewish leaders to send a delegation to ask “Who are you?” John’s response pointed only to Christ, and teaches us that we, like the Jewish delegates, easily place our hope on lesser messiahs, mere shadows, and miss the One whom the entire Old Testament proclaims. John 1:19-23…

Introduction to the Gospel of John

John 1:1-18 – John’s Gospel is unique among the four records of Jesus’ earthly work and ministry. In this introduction to the series, we examine five categories in which John differs from the synoptic writers: John’s unique characteristics, the Gospel’s unique theme, John’s unique perspective, his use of selective details, and his unique purpose. John 1:1-18 1:1 In the beginning was the Word,…

Don’t Be Surprised, Suffering Begins with Us

1 Peter 4:12-19 – Peter once again encourages suffering saints to persevere in well doing while suffering, even fiery trials, to expect such testing because it begins with God’s people. Peter is beginning to close out his epistle and is emphasizing again the thoughts of his opening words, but driving it home under the urgency of the impending “end of all things”.…

Characteristics of Faithful Elders

1 Peter 5:1-4 – When one thinks of the biblical qualifications for elders, they usually go to 1 Timothy 3, or Titus 1. Those are indeed important passages on the subject. However, Peter, who spent a lot of time learning from Jesus about being a good shepherd, also tells us much on this topic in the last chapter of his first epistle.…

Urgent! The End of All Things Means…

1 Peter 4:7-11 – Because “the end of all things is at hand”, we are to be self controlled and sober minded, hospitable, and servant hearted. So the first question we need to address is – What is this end of all things? Second, we should get a sense of why it should motivate us to do anything. We will hope to…

Antithetical Thinking, Living, and Dying

1 Peter 4:1-6 – As Peter calls his readers to be different in their thinking and different in their living from the world in which they live, so also are we to be different. Pastor Lee highlights the antithesis of Peter’s instructions and applies it to our lives today. 1 Peter 4:1-6 4:1 Since therefore Christ suffered in the flesh, arm yourselves with…
